Raphael Partners LLP began as a small firm founded in Windsor, Ontario, in 1963 by Leon Paroian, Q.C. and Gabriel Courey, Q.C. The firm quickly grew and, with the addition of Carl Cohen, Q.C. in 1964, and Al Houston, Q.C. in 1965, became Paroian, Courey, Cohen & Houston, an acknowledged force in the Southwestern Ontario legal community in the areas of administrative, business, litigation, insurance, and property law.
Since its inception, the firm has grown continually in response to the needs of its clients. In l987, Toronto litigation lawyers Bert Raphael, Q.C. and Stan Raphael, Q.C., merged their firm with the Windsor office and Paroian, Raphael, Courey, Cohen & Houston (known less formally as Paroian Raphael) emerged.
In l989, the leading Chatham law firm of O’Brien, Jacklin and O’Brien merged with Paroian Raphael, giving the firm the ability to represent the interests of its clients in a wide range of legal matters in the Windsor, Toronto and Chatham areas.
In 1993, the Tilbury law office of T. C. Odette Jr., Q.C., joined forces with our Firm. In 1995, the firm made further improvements in its ability to service the Southwestern Ontario community by opening
an office in Leamington, Ontario.
Raphael Partners LLP has long been regarded as one of Ontario’s leading civil and insurance litigation
firms. Affirming Raphael Partners LLP's litigation reputation is the fact that Raphael Partners LLP has the distinction of being one of only two Ontario law firms to have had two partners serve as President of The Advocates Society: Bert Raphael, Q.C., and Allan Houston, Q.C. (1935-1993).
The firm’s lawyers practice in a wide variety of legal areas, assisted by a professional team of law clerks, students and office staff who share a common goal of delivering quality legal services in a timely, affordable manner.
In addition to the practice of law, the firm is committed to service in the communities in which it is established. Members of the firm have held distinguished positions on local boards and charitable institutions and have made contributions to the field of legal education.
